Who Were the Ottomans? Part Two: From Suleiman to Sultan Abdul Hamid II
Part Two covers the period from the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent through the end of the Khilafa. The curriculum focuses on the legacy of a number of great Sultans, and their deep connection to Islam in everything they did, on every level.
This course is especially designed for teens, although adults and the whole family will enjoy it and benefit from it.
It includes:
Sultan Sulaiman the Magnificent and the First Battle of Vienna
The Ottoman rivalry with the Habsburgs in Central Europe and Spain
Murad III and Ottoman naval power in the Mediterranean
Mehmed IV and the Second Battle of Vienna
Abdul Majid I and the Tanzimat reforms
Abdul Hamid II’s Khilafa
The Young Turks, World War I, and the fall of the Khilafa
And more.
This course will help you understand the legacy of the great Muslim Ottoman state, and how this legacy fits into the history of the Ummah. The reality is that few history courses in our education system in the West will teach the history of Muslim-majority lands from a Muslim perspective. This course aims to provide a more balanced, accurate, and holistic understanding, guided by our own traditional understanding of the reality of human history in this world.
Our intention is for this course to help youth, and adults, to better understand where we come from. In turn, this will help us begin to imagine where we might go as a civilization in the future, insha'Allah. This is all part of the larger goal of helping us reconnect with the immense riches and beneficial aspects of our Muslim legacy.
Course schedule: Every Wednesday starting June 29th, 2022 until July 27th, 2022 (1pm ET; 6pm British) – All sessions will be recorded if you cannot attend live.
This will be a live course, held via Zoom, with 5 sessions total over 5 weeks. Our instructor will be Ustadh Abu Ayyub Marulanda, who is originally from the USA, and has been living in Istanbul for a number of years. We're keeping the class small, to allow for participation and questions.
You can also sign up for parts 1 & 2 (10 weeks) together and get a discount. Click here
